No Legal Advice
The Open Bankruptcy Project provides free educational tools and research. Nothing on any of our websites constitutes legal advice. Our tools screen publicly available federal court data for statistical patterns. They do not evaluate individual cases, recommend courses of action, or substitute for consultation with a licensed attorney.
Accuracy
We make every effort to ensure our data and tools are accurate. Our screening methodology is published and peer-reviewed. However, we cannot guarantee that all data is complete, current, or error-free. Court records change, cases are amended, and statutory interpretations evolve. Users should independently verify any information before relying on it.
Use of Tools
Our tools are free for any lawful purpose. Attorneys, legal aid organizations, researchers, journalists, and members of the public may use our tools and data without restriction. Attribution is appreciated but not required.
Open Source
Our code is published on GitHub under open source licenses. You may fork, modify, and redistribute our tools in accordance with the applicable license terms.
Limitation of Liability
The Open Bankruptcy Project, its directors, and its volunteers are not liable for any damages arising from the use of our tools, data, or educational content. Use at your own risk.
Court Data
Our tools analyze publicly available federal court records obtained through PACER, the Federal Judicial Center, CourtListener, and RECAP. We do not modify court records. Our analysis reflects statistical patterns, not legal conclusions.
Links to Third Parties
Our sites contain links to external resources (PACER, CourtListener, Ko-fi, GitHub, etc.). We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party sites.
