Available Datasets

We provide free, unrestricted access to our processed datasets. All data is derived from public federal records and can be used for any purpose -- research, journalism, advocacy, or personal exploration.

National Case Database

4.9 million bankruptcy cases from 2008-2024. Fields include: court, case number, chapter, filing date, closing date, disposition, debtor demographics (state, zip), and case outcomes. Available as SQLite database or CSV.

District Statistics

Aggregated statistics for all 94 federal bankruptcy districts: filing volume, completion rates by chapter, median case duration, pro se filing rates, and year-over-year trends.

Analysis Tools

Our open-source Python analysis toolkit includes: district comparison, attorney scorecard, means test analysis, outlier detection, and visualization generators. Available on GitHub under MIT license.

How to Access

All datasets and tools are available on our GitHub repository: github.com/ilikemath9999/bankruptcy-discharge-screener. No registration required. No usage restrictions. If you use our data in published work, we appreciate (but do not require) a citation.

Is the data really free?
Yes, completely free with no restrictions. Our data derives from public federal records and is provided under open-source licenses.
What format is the data in?
SQLite databases and CSV files. Our analysis scripts are Python 3. Documentation is included.
Can I use this for my research?
Absolutely. Academic, journalistic, advocacy, and personal use are all welcome. Citation appreciated but not required.
How large is the dataset?
The full national database is approximately 2GB (SQLite). Individual district files are much smaller. CSV exports of common queries are available for lighter analysis.
